Glass Bead Portraiture Jim has developed a whole new bead embroidery technique creating beautiful artistic portraits using shimmering glass beads. He literally paints with beads; creating diversely textured and colorful pieces of art. His portraiture ranges from realistic portraits to wildly fantastic and whimsical creations. All of his work includes symbols expressing the hobbies, interests, and vocation of the subject. The portrait “Perry” of an avid orchid grower, located in the gallery, has images of Orchids in the background. Jim’s self portrait “Jim” has references to his pen and ink drawings. The “Hudi” is classified as a “heritage” portrait, the subject is a Native American gourd artist so his vocation and family heritage is reflected in this piece. The 2 fantasy portraits, “the Artist in Red Glasses” and “Sandi”, show a bit of their work. The tile squares in the “Sandi” portrait reflect her work as a mosaic artist as well as some whimsy and fun. If you notice the “Sandi” piece has been appliquéd to a black silk jacket, adding to the fun and beauty of the piece. The Iconics
can be done as traditional iconic images or you can portray the saint,
as Jim has done, with yourself or someone you know. The St. Joseph
iconic portrait is of a Sexton at a local Episcopal Church. Jim is available for commissioned work, you may contact him by clicking the “contact us” button to discuss price, and style. All portraits will be done from a clear 8x10 head shot and must be in .jpg or .pdf format. |
