Gourd Art

Found in temperate and tropical zones, gourds are one of the oldest crops that have been cultivated around the world since prehistoric times. They were often put to practical use as cooking and eating utensils, water containers, storage, musical instruments and even medicine rattles.

Each gourd is unique. Starting from unusually-shaped seeds, they grow at a terrific pace, spreading and climbing everything from fences, trees, walls and more. Gourds remain on the vine until they are dry. They are then harvested.

Gourds are the apotheosis of organic art, coming in many different shapes and colors. Once the artist dries and cleans each gourd, it will possess its own natural scars and blemishes that enhance the unique beauty of each gourd.
